STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Student scholarships in the amount of $500 each may be awarded to worthy candidates in Missouri’s NASP or APA approved school psychology programs at the annual Fall MASP Conference. The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage students to complete school psychology programs and support employment of school psychologists in Missouri. Additionally, MASP hopes to increase student involvement and membership. The scholarship may be used for living expenses, research, conference attendance costs, or any other needs related to academic preparation as a school psychologist.

Requirement for Nominee(s): Applicants must be a current MASP member and presently attending one of Missouri’s NASP or APA approved School Psychology programs.

Nominee materials must include: 

• A completed application 
• One letter of recommendation from a professional within the field (preferably a supervisor such as a faculty advisor or practicum supervisor)
• One to two page vita listing academic preparation and any presentations, in-services, publications, etc. 
• A one-page statement about how the candidate would benefit professionally as a result of receiving this scholarship. 
• The statement should include service or other professional experiences that encompass work with children and future professional goals in school psychology.

Social Justice & Equity Scholarships

One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded at the annual Fall MASP Conference to a student who demonstrates plans to promote equity and social justice in their education and practice, and who identifies with a group that is historically underrepresented in the field of education (e.g. race, ethnicity, ability (visible or invisible), sexual orientation, etc.). The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage historically underrepresented students to complete school psychology programs and support employment of school psychologists in Missouri. Additionally, MASP hopes to increase student involvement and membership. The award money may be used for living expenses, research, conference attendance costs, or any other needs related to academic preparation as a school psychologist. 

Requirement for Nominee(s): Applicants must be a current MASP member and presently attending one of Missouri’s NASP or APA approved School Psychology programs.

Nominee Materials must include:

• A completed application
• One letter of recommendation from a professional within the field, preferably a supervisor (e.g. faculty advisor, practicum supervisor)
• A one-to-two-page curriculum vita (CV) listing academic preparation and any presentations, in-services, publications, etc.
• A brief statement describing how the applicant meets the criteria stated, including their previous and planned work to promote social justice and equity.

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST or SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMINER OF THE YEAR

Consider nominating a colleague for this prestigious award presented by the association at the annual Spring Collaborative Conference. Any school psychologist or school psychological examiner who is a member of MASP is eligible for nomination. The School Psychologist of the Year will also be recommended as Missouri’s candidate for NASP’s school psychologist of the Year! Nominees who are active in district or state leadership in school psychological services and/or in MASP will be given preference.

Nominee(s) will be evaluated in terms of performance and contributions in these areas:

• Direct service to children, schools, and families
• Service through the administration or supervision of school psychological or related services
• Service to the profession through local and state organizations dedicated to the development and implementation of school psychological services
• Service to the profession through development of school psychological training programs or through continuing professional development
• Service to the profession through research and publication that contributes to the knowledge base of the field

Nominee Materials must include:

• Candidate’s Vitae
• Four letters of support (one page each) written by individuals knowledgeable about the candidate’s capabilities. These may include teachers, parents, students, colleagues, administrators, etc. At least one of the letters must be from an individual in the candidate’s professional setting.  Be sure to address the selection criteria in the letters.
