Columbia Public Schools in Columbia, Missouri, anticipates full-time openings for school psychology internship positions for the 2024-2025 school year. Columbia is a city of approximately 123,000 people, situated between Kansas City and St. Louis. It is host to the University of Missouri-Columbia, Columbia College, and Stephens College and provides a diverse educational setting and a number of community resources.
Our team of school psychologists strives to provide a comprehensive range of services as described in the current standards from the National Association of School Psychologists. Our school psychologists participate in effective data-based decision-making using a foundation of assessment and data collection. School psychologists are responsible for conducting multidisciplinary evaluations for special education eligibility. School psychologists also conduct functional behavior assessments and assist school personnel in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans. Our team members apply their knowledge of both psychology and education through consultation and collaboration with teachers, school administrators, parents, and community providers. Interns can engage in specific services for students, such as direct and indirect interventions that focus on academic skills, learning, socialization, and mental health. Our school psychologists work collaboratively with others to promote effective and safe learning environments, prevent and remediate academic and behavior problems, and improve family-school collaboration. School psychology interns assist their supervisors with these duties under direct training and supervision. Supervision is tailored to individual needs and program requirements; group supervision sessions for all interns are offered monthly. All supervisors are Ed.S.-level school psychologists.
Qualified applicants will possess good oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills. Oral and written communication is required for sharing information with staff and parents. Computer processing and data entry skills are also required. Visual acuity and hearing are required for the delivery of assessment, intervention, and consultation services. Occasional lifting of materials and equipment of less than 25 pounds and assisting with students may be required. The ability to maintain emotional control under stress and work with multiple deadlines, a variety of people and personnel, and frequent interruptions is required. Internship applicants must be working toward a terminal degree in school psychology and are required to seek a Temporary Authorization Certificate as a school psychologist in Missouri. Successful candidates will be offered a salary of $34,500 as well as full medical and dental benefits for the 9-month internship.
