School Psychologist:  The Columbia Public Schools (CPS) in Missouri is seeking full-time School Psychologists for the 2015-2016 school year.  CPS is a 17,000+ pupil, pre-K to 12 district located in mid-Missouri (on I-70 midway between St. Louis and Kansas City).  The district employs more than 1,400 professionals with 19 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 4 high schools, and an area vocational school providing educational opportunities for the Columbia community.  Columbia is a progressive town with a population of about 100,000; living costs are 5% below the national average.  Columbia's major industries include education and medicine (nine hospitals).  Columbia is home to two colleges as well as the University of Missouri with a total student population of over 32,000.  With the university atmosphere, Columbia has consistently been ranked as a desirable city in which to live.

School psychologists in our district are primarily responsible for conducting multidisciplinary evaluations for special education eligibility.  In addition to this role, school psychologists also engage in consultation, conduct functional behavioral assessments, assist with creating behavior improvement plans, lead teams in data-based decision making, and provide guidance when building leaders express interest in response to intervention.  On a limited basis, school psychologists also provide individual counseling, lead social skills groups for students with disabilities, and conduct intelligence testing for our gifted programs.

School psychologists must be well organized, attentive to detail, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and adhere to all state and federal laws pertaining to IDEA and 504.  Successful candidates must be well-versed in the assessment process including developing and carrying out appropriate evaluation plans for students with suspected disabilities.  School psychologists must be able to develop positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents/patrons, and educational staff.  Individuals in this position are also expected to participate in professional growth activities, to demonstrate a sense of professional responsibility, to effectively collaborate with building and district-wide personnel, and to follow the policies and procedures of the District.

Successful candidates must have a graduate degree in school psychology and be certified as a K-12 School Psychologist in Missouri.  Experience as a school psychologist in the public schools and the NCSP are preferred.  Apply online at www.cpsk12.org or contact Dr. Molly Stebbins, Coordinator of Psychological Services, at (573) 214-3461 for more information.
