    Southern Boone County School Psychologist/Psychological Examiner

    Job Goal:

    To assist multidisciplinary team members in proper identification of students with disabilities and monitor compliance with state and federal requirements along with providing support to building level Tier 2 and Tier 3 teams.


    -Missouri Certification (or eligible) as School Psychologist or School Psychological Examiner

    -1 year experience as a School Psychologist, School Psychological Examiner or supervised intern

    -Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

    -Demonstrated problem solving skills and mature judgment

    -Ability to manage time and multiple priorities to meet deadlines

    -Detailed understanding of special education and section 504 processes

    -Demonstrated leadership abilities

    -Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters professionally

    Performance Responsibilities:

    1.  Assess the cognitive ability, academic achievement, adaptive behavior, transition and social/emotional/behavioral status of referred students.

     a) Assessing/identifying students for initial or continuing eligibility in the IDEA exceptionalities.  
     b) Interpretation, analysis and synthesis of results of an assessment battery to establish an effective and understandable individual student   profile for staff and parents.
    c) Composing individualized psycho-educational evaluation
    d) Facilitate and/or participate with a school’s implementation of a Response to Intervention model

    2. Case manage various meetings for students who receive or are referred for Exceptional Education services. Candidate should facilitate and
    participate in:

    a) Review of Existing Data meetings to establish diagnostic plans for students who require an evaluation (including completing all paperwork required for this meeting.
    b) Eligibility Determination meetings to discuss possible Exceptional Education identification.


    3. Serve as mental health and behavioral resource:

    a) Explaining assessment/identification issues to school personnel and parents.
    b) Determining appropriate mental health and behavioral interventions for students.
    c) Participating on intervention, behavior, and pre-referral teams. 

    4. Remain current regarding new research and best practices in School Psychology and Education.

    a) Stay current on the administration, scoring and interpretation of newly published assessment measures.
    b) Stay current on Missouri Standards and Indicators regarding special education eligibility.
    c) Stay current on “best practices” discussed by the Missouri Association of School Psychologists and the National Association of School Psychologists.
    d) Possess a working knowledge of DSM-IV TR diagnoses.
    e) Facilitate and/or participate in-service training workshops as indicated by the administration.
    f) Participate in inter-departmental meetings in order to improve communication and clarify procedures.

    Special School District of St. Louis County, MO is seeking full time School Psychologists for the 16-17 school year.  

     Consults with general and special education staff regarding development of programs to assure student access to the curriculum. Plans, organizes, coordinate, and implements the assessment of students to determine eligibility for special education services.
    Job Responsibilities:

    1. Participates as team member in the multidisciplinary evaluation process.
    2. Acts as consultant to component district staff, building level teams, and parents regarding academic/behavioral interventions for at-risk students, using data-driven decision-making.
    3. Completes informal assessments to include observations, curriculum-based measurements, functional behavior assessments and other structured clinical tasks for at-risk students in the general education setting.
    4. Administers diagnostic tests and procedures to determine students’ cognitive ability, processing strengths and weaknesses, adaptive behavior development, academic achievement levels and emotional/behavioral functioning.
    5. Schedules meetings for review of existing data meeting, eligibility and reevaluation conferences in collaboration with parents, school staff and SSD evaluation team.
    6. Attends meetings for review of existing data meeting with parents and school staff to obtain pertinent background information, review school concerns, explain procedural safeguards and secure permission to evaluate.
    7. Reviews student files and data-gathering packets, and collects pertinent data from physicians, mental health professionals and outside agencies.
    8. Chairs eligibility conferences and reports assessment results and recommendations to parents, students, teachers, counselors and other interested and/or entitled parties.
    9. Ensures that eligibility decisions are made in compliance with DESE criteria and best professional practice.
    10. Maintains case records by preparing, editing, and proofing the final assessment report in a timely manner.
    11. Attends IEP conferences, as requested, to provide input on appropriate goals and objectives for individual students and to help make determinations about reevaluation issues.
    12. Consults with colleagues, supervisors, and other professionals regarding the special education and general education needs of individual students.
    13. At the request of building or SSD administrator, plans and provides in-service programs for programming staff, parents, and partner district staff regarding assessment and related services.
    14. If certified/licensed as a school psychologist, school counselor, professional counselor or social worker, conducts individual, group and facilitative counseling. Provides short-term and crises intervention and participates in classroom and group activities.
    15. Attends local/regional/national conferences and workshops, in-service training, staff meetings and credit courses (when necessary) in order to keep abreast of new developments and maintain certification and/or licensure.
    16. Assists with in-service training of colleagues and orientation of new staff members. Acts as mentor or intern supervisor for new staff and school psychology interns as directed by countywide diagnostic administrator.
    17. Serves on SSD and component district committees as requested by supervisor.
    18. Performs other tasks as assigned by the superintendent, assistant superintendent, executive director, director, countywide administrator, or area coordinator.

    Prior diagnostic experience required (special education preferred).
    Missouri School Psychologist certification or eligibility for certification. Specialist in School Psychology preferred.
