    Special School District of St. Louis County is seeking School Psychologist applicants for the 2017-18 school year. 

    Summary:  Consults with general and special education staff regarding development of programs to assure student access to the curriculum. Plans, organizes, coordinate, and implements the assessment of students to determine eligibility for special education services.

    Job Responsibilities:

    1. Participates as team member in the multidisciplinary evaluation process.
    2. Acts as consultant to component district staff, building level teams, and parents regarding academic/behavioral interventions for at-risk students, using data-driven decision-making.
    3. Completes informal assessments to include observations, curriculum-based measurements, functional behavior assessments and other structured clinical tasks for at-risk students in the general education setting.
    4. Administers diagnostic tests and procedures to determine students’ cognitive ability, processing strengths and weaknesses, adaptive behavior development, academic achievement levels and emotional/behavioral functioning.
    5. Schedules meetings for review of existing data meeting, eligibility and reevaluation conferences in collaboration with parents, school staff and SSD evaluation team.
    6. Attends meetings for review of existing data meeting with parents and school staff to obtain pertinent background information, review school concerns, explain procedural safeguards and secure permission to evaluate.
    7. Reviews student files and data-gathering packets, and collects pertinent data from physicians, mental health professionals and outside agencies.
    8. Chairs eligibility conferences and reports assessment results and recommendations to parents, students, teachers, counselors and other interested and/or entitled parties.
    9. Ensures that eligibility decisions are made in compliance with DESE criteria and best professional practice.
    10. Maintains case records by preparing, editing, and proofing the final assessment report in a timely manner.
    11. Attends IEP conferences, as requested, to provide input on appropriate goals and objectives for individual students and to help make determinations about reevaluation issues.
    12. Consults with colleagues, supervisors, and other professionals regarding the special education and general education needs of individual students.
    13. At the request of building or SSD administrator, plans and provides in-service programs for programming staff, parents, and partner district staff regarding assessment and related services.
    14. If certified/licensed as a school psychologist, school counselor, professional counselor or social worker, conducts individual, group and facilitative counseling. Provides short-term and crises intervention and participates in classroom and group activities.
    15. Attends local/regional/national conferences and workshops, in-service training, staff meetings and credit courses (when necessary) in order to keep abreast of new developments and maintain certification and/or licensure.

    Qualifications:
    Prior diagnostic experience required (special education preferred).
    Missouri School Psychologist certification or eligibility for certification. Specialist in School Psychology preferred.

    School Psychologist (Part-Time) Position from the Missouri School Board Association Medicaid Consortium

    This position could be filled by a school psychological examiner or school psychologist, as each public school has specific needs. This position offers a unique opportunity for a retired professional or an individual who wants to set their own schedule and work part-time. The position will work one to three days per week placed in different Kansas City area public and charter school settings. The position will participate as a member of each schools' multidisciplinary diagnostic team for the purpose of identification and placement of students.

    The primary job responsibilities are driven by the needs of the individual school and may include SPED assessments, counseling and consultation with school staff. A qualified candidate will have knowledge of psychological and educational tests, test procedures, interpretation, presentation of findings, report writing and counseling, as needed. The position is flexible and we can accommodate the 550 hour rule impacting retired public school professionals. The position also participates as a member of the Research to Practice staff in supporting Missouri public schools through initiation and development of new programs. Travel to Columbia, MO for quarterly all staff meetings is required.

    Requirements:

    • Certification as a school psychologist or a school psychological examiner with a valid K-12 teaching certificate or LPC counselor
    • Experience working in the public school setting preferred

    Responsibilities: Conducting cognitive and behavioral assessments of students; providing the diagnostic team with a written report of the findings; participating as a member of the IEP team and/or other multidisciplinary screening teams; assisting with functional behavioral assessments and/or behavioral intervention plans; collaborating with teachers and administrators to address student issues; counseling services and other related duties as determined by the individual school.
